HPP advised Commerz Real AG (“Commerz Real”) on the Finnish aspects of the acquisition, via Commerz Real’s impact fund Klimavest, of the 45.6 MW turnkey onshore Lumivaara wind farm in Finland from developer Energiequelle. Commerz Real continuously expands its renewables portfolio and together with Lumivaara, Klimavest now owns a total of four operational wind farms in Finland with a total capacity of more than 170 megawatts.
The Lumivaara wind farm, which has now been connected to the grid, can cover the calculated annual demand of more than 20,000 average Finnish households with its estimated electricity production. The wind farm is located in the municipality of Hyrynsalmi, a part of the Kainuu region, about 560 kilometres north of Helsinki. Turbine manufacturer Nordex is responsible for ongoing full maintenance, while Energiequelle is responsible for the technical and commercial management of the wind farm.
Commerz Real is the asset manager for real asset investments of the Commerzbank Group and has over 50 years of international market experience. More than 800 employees manage assets of around 34 billion euros at the Wiesbaden headquarters and 17 other locations and branches in Germany and abroad. Commerz Real has been investing in solar energy since 2005 and in wind power plants and other energy infrastructure segments since 2016. The company currently manages more than 50 solar power plants and over 40 onshore and offshore wind farms in Germany and Europe with a total nominal output of approx. 1.5 gigawatts.
