HPP advises Fintoil Oy in a project to build a crude tall oil refinery in Hamina. The construction of the biorefinery will begin once the company has received environmental and building permits, estimated in late 2020 at the earliest, and the biorefinery will start up at the Hamina oil port in 2022. Crude tall oil is a by-product of softwood pulp production and the carbon footprint of its distillates is up to 90% lower than that of comparable fossil products. More than 60% of the refinery’s output will be directed to biodiesel production.Â
Fintoil Oy is an investment of Taaleri, and the biorefinery is a significant investment in Finnish industry and expertise.
