Green
Transition
From planning large-scale renewables projects to investing in the development of technologies which decarbonise existing processes, HPP is the right legal partner to provide pragmatic and practical advice on the expanding range of legal issues concerning the green transition.
Your legal partner for building a more sustainable future and supporting the green transition
Addressing climate change requires co-ordinated action at local, national, and global levels to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions, adapt to climate impacts, and build resilient and sustainable societies.
The green transition represents a fundamental shift towards more sustainable and responsible business practices that prioritise environmental stewardship, social equity, and long-term economic viability. By embracing the green transition, businesses can create value, enhance competitiveness, and contribute to a more sustainable future.
The green transition impacts various aspects of a company’s operations, including production processes, design, energy efficiency and consumption, waste management, and corporate governance. Forward-thinking clients are already implementing sustainable supply chains and circular economic practices, designing and launching eco-friendly products and services and taking concrete steps to achieve carbon neutrality and net zero targets by defined dates.
These steps must incorporate an evolving blend of innovation, the development and implementation of new technology implementation, while taking into account regulatory compliance and transparency requirements, both for relevant authorities, as well as shareholders and other stakeholders.
Corporate General Counsel and the Boards to which they report, need the right legal support to manage their green transition strategy, create value through well-considered green transition strategies and policies and mitigate legal and business risks.
HPP’s Green Transition Team is the right partner to support the business aims embodied in your green transition strategy. Our integrated team has advised on many ‘first-of-a-kind’ projects and investments in Finland. Expertise on ESG related financing solutions and agreements
Demand for climate and environmentally friendly solutions and innovations is high. HPP is closely following the sustainability indicators and ESG policies being developed and introduced. Major Finnish banks have committed to the UN’s Principles for Responsible Banking, and their strategy and practice will have to align with sustainability goals and, among others, the Paris Climate Agreement.
In practice, these sustainability-related principles are currently applied in the due diligence process, as well as to new financial products. For example, green bonds, loans and margin grids are already based on sustainability indicators such as carbon dioxide emission levels. Our experienced team will guide you through different sustainable financing options for your green transition projects.

ESG AND COMPLIANCE
EU’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) is standardising non-financial reporting across the EU, making sustainability reporting more comparable and reliable. Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) aims to ensure that large companies operating in the EU market incorporate due diligence processes into their operations.
This includes, for example, identifying and addressing human rights and environmental risks in their supply chains, integrating due diligence into corporate policies and management systems, and reporting on their due diligence efforts and their impact, and it will have a great influence on supply chains and also smaller companies.
EU AND REGULATORY
HPP’s EU, Competition and Regulatory law practice group is a leading team within its field of expertise in Finland.
Our team advises clients on the whole spectrum of competition law-related (anti-trust, merger control, state aid/foreign subsidies regulation) and other regulatory issues, offering a solution-oriented approach to support businesses. We regularly assist clients on competition law-based and other regulatory requirements (in particular, foreign direct investment) relating to green transition and sustainability projects (such as the permissibility of competitor cooperation aimed at achieving sustainability objectives).
